I’m crazy about markets, I love the concept, the ambiance, the variety of food, I like everything. When I was in Lisbon for the first time (in January of 2016), I visited the Time Out Market. We (three people) were inside of the elétrico, coming back from the Torre de Belém and the market was on our way. We got out of the train right away to check out the place. After a while, I realized that the Time Out Market was the Mercado da Ribeira, a place that I was planning to visit. The Time Out Market Lisbon is the first one in the world where everything was tasted and choose by the people from the Time Out Magazine.
The atmosphere is nice, a big barn (like almost all the markets I know) with wood benches and tall tables in the middle, and all the food stands on the side. By the way, all the food stands are standardized, all the names on the top are written in white on a black sign. That’s so organized and makes so easy for the customer to see all the options of food the market offers. But, when you look inside of the stands they are different, each one has a style, even because they are selling different products, so only the outside is the same.
There are many types of food at the market, to please every taste. I had a burger from Honorato, and it was pretty good. I was planning to eat at this burger place in Lisbon, but I didn’t have the time to visit the real spot. So, when I saw that they had a stand at the market, I was super happy. In general, the prices are ok, since it’s all gourmet; you can eat spending around €10-€15. Well, if you like markets and love to eat then don’t miss the Time Out Market/Mercado da Ribeira when in Lisbon, it’s a place that should be on your list. Check it out the pictures!
