The Smorgasburg is an open-air flea food market that happens on the riverfront of the East River State Park in Williamsburg – Brooklyn, NYC -, every Saturday from April to November. The variety of food tents is wide – from 75 to 100 vendors-, and that means: It’s hard to decide what to eat! Sandwiches, bites, regional dishes, drinks, soft drinks, desserts and so on. It’s a foodie’s paradise!
Obs: The Smorgasburg also happens on Sundays at the Prospect Park. During the winter it takes place in an indoor area. This article is only about the Smorgasburg that happens on Saturdays in Williamsburg.
Since it’s an outdoor market, the weather defines the vibe of the place. I had a blast when a visited the market, the day was perfect, a summer Saturday with blue sky. There are no trees nor tents near the tables, so if the day is too warm or rainy, it might be uncomfortable to eat under the strong sunlight or the drizzle. But the view from the tables area… Ohhh, the view is fantastic! You are going to eat facing Manhattan’s skyline.
If you enjoy eating and trying new flavors – with a great view -, so there is no better way to start the weekend than visiting the Smorgasburg. It’s a nice program for families, friends, couples, and solo visitors as well. The fair happens in Williamsburg, a hipster neighborhood in Brooklyn. The area is super cool, with interesting stores and walls full of graffitis, a great neighborhood to walk around and explore after having lunch at the market.
It’s pretty easy to get there! If you are in Manhattan you have to take the L train and stop at the Bedford Avenue Station in Brooklyn, it’s the first stop after crossing the bridge. The subway station is three blocks away from the fair.
