Évora is the capital of the Alentejo, south-central region of Portugal. It’s possible to visit its main attractions in one day, in a round trip from Lisbon, which is located approximately 130km away. Its historic center is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it’s very charming, with monuments dating back to Roman times.
The city is very old (more than 5,000 years old) and has been dominated by several people throughout the centuries. Romans, Visigoths, Moors, and finally by the Portuguese. The white and yellow houses dominate the scenery, making it easy to take a beautiful photo. The gastronomy, very traditional, complements the experience. As well as the delicious wines produced in the region.
I visited Évora for the first time in May of 2018, and the historic center won my heart in no time. Cobbled streets, cute and colorful houses, ancient constructions. I don’t need much more to get a bit crazy with my camera on the hand. So, if you like photography, Portugal is full of charming cities waiting to be explored, and Évora is one of them.
