Pictures to inspire you to visit Ghent

Canal and medieval houses in Ghent

Ghent is a beautiful city in the Flemish region of Belgium, it has a rich history, and it was very important during the middle ages – one of the biggest back then. Its medieval architecture is well preserved, and a little walk through the historic center proves that. The center area is car-free (the largest in the country), which makes your visit even more pleasant. Ghent is the perfect city for a weekend getaway, or for a round trip from Brussels (from 30 minutes to 1h by train).

Many people when visiting Belgium don’t include Ghent in the itinerary since there are other famous cities which attract more tourists. But Ghent is charming and has a lot to offer – history, culture, shopping, medieval architecture, art, gastronomy, and beer (of course!). So, if your idea is to visit a typical Belgian city, but want a “less-tourists-please” experience, Ghent is a good option. The city has all the typical Belgian elements to please every traveler.
