Barrio Cantina is a food truck festival that happens in Belgium every year. The event takes place in different cities in May and June, when the weather starts to get better. I went to the Barrio Cantina in Antwerp, and it was awesome, one of the best food truck festivals that I’ve been in Belgium while I was living there.

The festival was a mixture of many food options, creative trucks, beers and drinks, great location (by the river and close to the city center), pleasant music, and sunny day, which is not a normal thing in Belgium. It had everything to be a good event, and it did not disappoint.

The food options included a good range of world dishes. Belgian treats (such as the famous fries and croquettes), burgers, Mexican food, Vietnamese, Thai, Italian, among others. To drink you could find Belgian beer (of course!), smoothies, coconut water, something to please every taste. The prices were affordable for Belgian standards.
The location of Barrio Cantina in Antwerp couldn’t have been better, it took place by the riverfront, close to Het Stein (the castle of the city) and the historical center. This area is so pleasant on a sunny day, full of trees and people walking around. And the day was beautiful, so the atmosphere was nice, especially because the sitting areas were mostly facing the river.
The event lasts a couple of days, or more, depending on the city. The one in Antwerp happened over a weekend. I can’t say much about the Barrio Cantina that happened in the other cities (I’ve only seen pictures), but I guess the quality of the festival is the same.
